Education and Sports Matters

The Spelling Bee is a program of the Intercontinental Science Foundation, Inc. and other community organizations for and by immigrant students, parents and community business and civic leaders who want to be active participants in their children's education. Simply sending our children to school and leaving the educators to carry 100 % of the burden of education is not going to cut it. The We Learn Spelling Bee is only one of many initiatives intended to rectify that.

Objectives:
To improve and advance the skills associated with good spelling, writing and reading habits.
To enhance student development of poise and communication under pressure.
To expand student vocabulary and encourage accurate word usage and pronunciation.
To provide an opportunity for students to meet and encourage each other.

Sports Matters
Sports Matters is a ISF Inc program with a mission to participate in the growth of our children's education through affordable organized sports. Children, and adults, who stay indoors and don't go out often, are likely to get sad and depressed, develop incurable diseases, and are least likely to engage in the growth and development of their community. Sports is one of quite a few engagements that can bring them overall health; and happiness.
Children thrive when every facet of their life functions well; in sync with all his or her parts, fulfilling its allocated duty to the whole person, and, in the process, allowing others to do the same. Many parents want their children to grow well; to become good citizens, and live happily. That is why we have deployed diverse programming for our community; click here to visit our spelling be program site. A sizable percent of these parents focus fully on academics. The other percent,  unfortunately, perhaps in the hopes of securing sports scholarships later on, stress physical education at the expense of academics. A well adjusted person must strike a balance. As one thinker wrote a long time ago, virtue lies somewhere in the middle; always.

Sports, at least good sports, is an expensive enterprise in the United States. Many low income families try to, not only pay for their children's participation in organized sports, they also do their best to be available, only to fail half way either through lack of funds, or time to port the young busy bodies, to and from games.
The Intercontinental Science Foundation Inc Sports Matters program is intended to accompany these parents as they struggle to support their children; our children, to become better, adjusted citizens of the commonwealth.

Good Governance and Democracy

By Dr.Michael M Kisembo What is good governance? Should it be the same in the West,  East, Africa and particularly Uganda? What are its prerequisites? Is good governance the same as Democracy? Also is Western democracy relevant and natural to Africa or foreign that has been imposed on us prematurely? Do we as African understand it? Is it in our DNA? Is it just a copy cut and paste something not natural to us and causing us CONFUSION? Is the anger in us and now in our countries causing and preventing us to see any good being done – thus blocking our blocking our ability to think Critically? Has this frustration transformed us into a society of No’s to anything that comes from home? Again, doesn’t this extreme frustration lead us to accept any person or politician that manifests himself/herself without us being principled? Are people and ideas from the diaspora the only hope for Africa or have the diasporas learned and forgot nothing in their new countries of exile or residence? Is...
